Institutional profile

The Centre for Public Communication Studies (Centre d'Etudes en Communication Publique - CECP), located in Lyon, France, is a research company specialised in the analysis of mass communication processes and methodology, with an emphasis on science communication and journalism. It works closely with Lyon 1 university, and is notably in charge of its "Science, Engineering and Medicine Communication" programme (Diplôme universitaire "Information et communication scientifique, technologique et médicale"). Other research or training cooperations includes Marseille 2 University and Grenoble 3 University.
CECP coordinates the "Information and complexity" research programme commissioned by the Economic and social forecasting department of Lyon city, and the studies of the National Committee for Information Advancement.
CECP currently plays a key role in the development of the French press' professional research. After two studies on the state of applied media research in France, it has been appointed as the scientific operator and coordinator of the National Committee for Information Advancement. This consortium brings together the National association of newspapers and magazine publishers, the National association of news agencies, and four journalism schools. Thanks to its double culture (scientific and professional), CECP has a gained a growing reputation in information methodology notably with its works on the cognitive and epistemological problems of text production and integration and on science writing pedagogy.
